In summer, everything comes alive, and Ripollès is no exception. The arrival of good weather also means celebrating, going out, meeting childhood friends, and vacations. Summer in this region has always been significant, increasing the number of visitors, tourists, and second-home residents.

Our aim, therefore, is to provide you with information about the Major Festivals in Ripollès in chronological order so you don’t miss any details. Like in other regions, summer centralizes the festivities of the valley towns, and it’s where the youth from all over the area dance and celebrate in every corner of Ripollès. Let’s discover some of them and provide you with tools to stay informed.

Sant Joan de les Abadesses Major Festival

2nd Sunday of September

The Major Festival is celebrated every year on the second Sunday of September and is dedicated to the Santíssim Misteri. Currently, the events extend from Friday to Tuesday of the same week.

The festival events are numerous and varied: liturgical acts, cultural events and exhibitions, concerts, dances in the marquee, sardanas, a giant parade, shows for young and old, sports activities, and leisure activities such as the Bogeria and the Diana Florejada, and fireworks… The highlight is the Ball dels Pabordes, declared a Festive Heritage Element of National Interest: a traditional dance performed by four couples in the Plaça Major on Sunday afternoon and Monday evening, accompanied by live music from a cobla.

Additionally, each year a monograph on a topic related to the town, created by local residents, is published for the celebration of this festival.

Friday kicks off with the Entrevoltes organized by the Jovent Actiu Santjoaní (JAS), which usually features 3 emerging bands in the Catalan music scene.

On Saturday, a new event this year is the 4th edition of Fira Músics, a small-format festival included within the Major Festival, where emerging music styles intersect with complementary styles, along with a local gastronomic offer so that no one goes hungry or thirsty.
